What Is Your Content Marketing Strategy?If you are serious about content marketing, you already know that an effective Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy can improve Google and other search engine page rankings. Unfortunately, you need more than great keywords to deliver successful content marketing.

With the wide range of SEO tools and other aids available, it can be easy for marketers to allow them to become crutches and to overlook weak content. Poor content with great SEO might bring you first time visitors but it will not create a following.

Think of good optimization for poor content like that last restaurant you visited because of the great commercials you saw. The first time you ate there was great. So you called some friends and invited them to go back with you. This time, nothing was the same; there was no consistency to the food or service. And you can bet that restaurant will not last for long.

Successful content marketing starts with creating content that offers real value to your visitors, benefits customers and gives new visitors a reason to return and refer you to others.

Here are four things to consider as you lay out your content marketing strategy:
  1. Channels
    What social media channels will you use? B2B marketers can’t go wrong by beginning with a good blog and an optimized LinkedIn company page.

  2. Voice
    Content needs a consistent voice with a distinct personality. Present yourself and your company honestly and you’ll gain credibility and followers.

  3. Schedule
    Come up with a calendar that is workable for you. Quality and consistency are the keys. You might want to tweet twice daily, update Facebook every afternoon, and post a new blog entry on Mondays and Thursdays. Find a routine that works for you, and stick to it.

  4. Response
    Make a commitment to respond to every email, blog comment, direct message, and form submission you receive. You don’t have to react immediately but you do need to set aside a chunk of time every day to respond to those that visit your site.
Content really is king, so make the time to create a strategy for producing the best content you can on the most consistent basis possible. This is what creates a loyal following.
